Welcome to National Summit of Health and Population Scientists in Nepal

The Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC) invites abstract submissions for the 12th National Summit of Health and Population Scientists in Nepal, scheduled from 10-12 April 2026. The summit will be held under the theme Health Research Governance for Evidence Informed Decision Making and Implementation in Nepal.

NHRC, as the leading authority for health research in Nepal, has been organizing these annual summits since 2015 to foster dialogue among researchers, policymakers, and development partners in the healthcare sector. The goal is to promote evidence based decision making and strengthen collaboration within the healthcare community.

Aligned with Nepal's National Health Policy 2019, this summit champions health research as a powerful engine for both public health advancement and national economic development. Yet, a critical gap persists too often, vital research findings fail to reach the policymaking table, resulting in missed opportunities for impactful, evidence based decisions.

The 12th National Summit is conceived as the essential bridge across this gap. It is a dedicated forum to transform knowledge into action, creating a dynamic dialogue between researchers and policymakers. Our goal is to ensure that innovative evidence directly informs the strategies and practices that address Nepal's most urgent health challenges.

In an era defined by a global crisis from climate change and environmental degradation to emerging health threats, the need for relevant, high-quality evidence has never been greater. This summit is a call to action for health research governance and effective implementation in Nepal.

Objective of the summit

  • To strengthen research and foster innovation in health research governance in response to evolving global challenges.
  • To strengthen the health system in a transparent, accountable and sustainable way to prepare for multi-health challenges and build a healthier, more resilient future.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

General Guidelines for Abstract Submission

  • Eligibility and Originality: Abstracts must be submitted online and report on original research conducted within Nepal, including systematic reviews, meta-analyses, case series or case reports. Studies from outside the country or based on already published articles are not eligible. International participants who have conducted the research within Nepal are eligible to submit abstract. The exception is for systematic/scoping reviews that present findings highly relevant to the Nepali context.

Note: The individual who submits the abstract online will be designated as the presenter if the abstract is accepted. Therefore, the presenters must submit the abstracts under their own name.

  • Ethical Compliance: All submitted abstracts must include proof of ethical approval (an approval letter) from the NHRC's Ethical Review Board (ERB) or an NHRC-approved Institutional Review Committee (IRC). This requirement is waived for specific study types like systematic reviews and meta-analyses that do not involve primary data collection, and some lab based research.

Note: In case of research papers that do not require proof of ethical approval, researchers will have to upload a signed declaration letter from their end.

  • Submission Process: Abstracts must be submitted online using the official summit template and must fully adhere to the provided guidelines. Resubmissions are not permitted after the initial submission, except in the case of a technical error officially notified by the summit committee. If you do not receive a confirmation email after submitting, please contact the Summit Focal Point at support@omwaytech.com / summit@nhrc.gov.np.

Note for Review Papers: Systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and meta-analyses are eligible for submission only if they present findings of direct and high relevance to the Nepali context. Narrative reviews, commentaries, and opinion pieces are not accepted.

  • Abstract Layout: Keep the abstract under 500 words with no images or graphics, ensure it is error free and accurate, include Greek characters and SI units, explain non standard abbreviations in brackets, and note that no changes are allowed after selection.
  • Content & Consent: Abstracts must contain a comprehensive summary of your research. Please be aware that the Scientific Committee may request a full article, an extended abstract, or your presentation slides. By submitting an abstract, you automatically grant consent for it to be published in the official Summit Proceedings and/or Abstract Book.
